Yahoo Desktop Search provides a permanent index of your computer's hard disk which means you can find specific documents, images, presentations, emails, contacts, etc. instantaneously rather than having to search from scratch every time as you do with the Search function included with Windows. You can also simultaneously preview every document, and searches can be saved.

This program is a "must" - there are other desktop search engines available (e.g. Google, MSN, Coppernic), but I found this the most user friendly.
